On Sunday morning, 21st September 03, we were glad to welcome a number of visitors to witness the baptism of Martyn Phillips, one of our young people.

Martyn's testimony:-

As a lot of you will know, I have been going to church all my life. I owe a lot to my Sunday school teachers, Delia, Elizabeth, Stuart and my Dad, for what they've done in teaching me about Jesus and God and everything.

As part of becoming a Christian and wanting to be baptised I had to learn that going to church and having a Christian family doesn't automatically mean that you're going to heaven, but it certainly is a blessing.

Rehoboth gave me the opportunity to go to Spring Harvest events which gave me big encouragement and was the first step that led to my conversion. Spring Harvest had an exciting and challenging Youth Programme that spoke to my heart, but at that point I didn't know Jesus as a Saviour which meant that when I went home from the events the 'feeling on fire for God' faded.

I borrowed the 'Jesus Freaks' book, which is a collection of accounts of Christians who would not compromise or apologize for their faith in Jesus Christ, even if it meant going to prison, being tortured, or facing death.

I was totally amazed at the power of their love for God. Obviously they knew they had something worth dying for. God had given them the strength and faith to suffer willingly.

I wanted this God to be in my life and recognized that I needed to repent and change for this to happen.

I prayed and felt overcome by God's love comforting my feelings of shame because I didn't think I could ever have the courage of the 'Jesus Freaks'.

I knew that God was saying He loved me and wanted me. I felt the Holy Spirit flowing into my heart, a feeling so great.

It took me a while to realise that becoming a Christian doesn't make your life easier and without problems, but it does mean that you have someone to take those problems to, someone who's there, no matter what. I'm making a stand for Jesus and what He's done in my life. So, all this from reading one book. That's how powerful God is! YES!!!
